Let’s Block MCE Deepwater Development!

➡ Why this action ?

The largest fossil fuel companies of the world have decided to meet in Pau from 5th to 7th of April for a what can utterly be called a “COP21 of climate and oceans gravediggers”: the MCE Deepwater Development Summit. Their goal? Develop the exploration and exploitation of offshore oil and gas.
Exploring and exploiting more fossil fuel reserves is totally incompatible with the objectives included in the Paris agreement to stabilise the climate, adopted by all States of the world at COP21: this would lead us straight to uncontrollableand irreversible runaway climate change. It is a crime against the climate and against humanity.

Drilling further and further, deeper and deeper and in more and more extreme conditions is a crime against the oceans!

We decided to do everything to prevent this premeditated crime. We will make every effort to block this strategic summit by organising non-violent, massive and determined actions and mobilisations.

➡ Why do we need you?

In order to reach this ambitious goal in such a short time, mobilising hundreds or thousands of people is not enough. We need to raise funds quickly to make these various actions and mobilisations possible.

Oil and gas companies have vast resources at their disposal to develop their criminal strategies (the registration fee for the summit, for example, ranges between $950 and $1,850 per person!).Ordinary citizens like us need the solidarity of as many people as possible to prevent them from planning their crime against the climate and the oceans. Time is short: we have just one month to raise at least €16,200.

➡ 4 good reasons to support the project:

  • Help prevent these strategic meetings where decisions are taken which will result in huge changes for the climate, our sea and land environment, and in millions of people dying or seeking refuge because of climate change.
  • Say “no” to fossil fuel multinationals ignoring commitments made by all the states of the world at the COP21 to keep global warming under + 2 ° C or 1.5 ° C
  • Strengthen the civil disobedience movement to defend the climate, the fight against the causes of climate change and the struggle to protect the oceans.
  • Call for divestment from fossil fuels, and require oil and gas companies to prepare their conversion to cutting energy waste and developing renewable energies.

Comme je ne suis toujours pas sûre de pouvoir venir (désolée), je vais poster un chèque de soutien aujourd’hui. Mais bien évidemment je voudrais dire NON sur place.
